My family and I have been travelling this wonderful country for close to 40 years. Either towing a trailer, camper trailer, caravan with a few different vehicles along the way. Currently I have a Zone RV 18.6 and have been towing with a Land Cruiser 200 series and more recently, a Ford Ranger.
In 2023, we were about to embark on a half lap of Australia, when I thought I 'd better check to see that my rig was not overweight. As there was no local mobile weighing business's in Albany, I headed to the nearest weighbridge to get a rough weight of the Land Cruiser fully loaded. I found my Land Cruiser's gross vehicle mass (GVM) was roughly 128 kg over weight, so we cancelled our trip. This led to the beginnings of my business, "Know Before You Tow".
I have invested in a set of professional weighing equipment from Nuweigh Australia and will never be overweight again. It’s just not worth the risk!
States and Territories are cracking down on overloaded vehicles in Australia and you risk a hefty fine and a loss of demerit points. If your insurance company gets a sniff of you being overweight, you will be denied coverage on not only the overweight item, but the entire tow rig!
